Sudha Raghunathan's Samudhaaya to help under privileged kids
CHENNAI, August 9: Samudhaaya Foundation, an organization founded by senior Carnatic vocalist Sudha Raghunathan, is embarking on a programme to assist under privileged in pediatric care.

Appropriately named "Have a heart for little hearts'', the project is aimed at funding the cost of heart surgeries of children from under privileged section of the society. The total cost of the project is estimated to be in the vicinity of around Rs.25 lakhs, which will cover the surgical expenses for close to 30 children. Samudhaaya also extends its hands to Sri Arunodayam, a home for the mentally challenged and destitute children who are terminally ill and for whom rehabilitation is close to impossible.

"While the funding for the former reaches out to improve the quality of life, the funding for the latter contributes to the sustenance of life itself,'' Sudha Raghunathan argues in a letter sent out to friends of the Foundation.

Samudhaaya Foundation has contributed in a major way to the Kargil Defence Personnel Relief Fund, the Cyclone Relief Fund for the affected in Orissa, the Earthquake Relief Fund for the affected in Gujarat and the Cancer Institute (for pediatric cancer).

"It has always been haunting me that there are scores of children deprived of their childhood for no fault of theirs. And why? All because of an ailment, for which cure is just not affordable. We, as a nation, should not miss out on saving the hands that are to shape the future,'' Sudha Raghunathan said.

She called upon people to come forward to help Samudhaaya's efforts in this direction.
