“AKSHAYAM'' to feature at WCG
CHENNAI, June 27: World Choir Games (WCG), a biennial choir music competition event, attracts contestants from across the globe, cutting across language barriers. This year, the WCG will be held in Cincinnati, USA between July 4 and July 14.

“AKSHAYAM”, trained by Dr.Sudha Raja, a senior instructor of the Madras Youth Choir, has registered itself under the `folklore category’ in the adult section of this international competition. With more than 70 countries and 270 groups will be vying with one another for the top honours, the competition promises to be an enthralling event.

“AKSHAYAM members take pride in the fact that their choir is the only team from India in the adult category to have gained entry in this musical extravaganza,’’ claims a release.

Under the tutelage of Dr.Sudha Raja, “AKSHAYAM” is also trained in devotional music, and the group has performed in all the prominent sabhas during the December music festival during the last few years.

AKSHAYAM comprises staff members of Bank of Baroda, and a few members from “SARGAM” adult choir, another wing of Dr.Sudha Raja’s SUSWARA Music School.

In the WCG, “AKSHAYAM” will be rendering songs in different Indian languages composed by Rabindranath Tagore, Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi, Bhaskaran and Harikesanallur Muthiah Baghavathar. A noteworthy feature of the songs to be rendered is that all the compositions have been `choralised’ by the Pitamaha of Indian choral music late Shri M.B.Srinivasan (MBS).
