Kids lit up Navarathri Kutcheri in the Park
CHENNAI, October 20: School children aged below 15 years lit up the Nageswara Rao Park last week, presenting mike-less kutcheris early in the morning at the specially-erected stage in the Chess Square of the park in Mylapore.

5th edition
The 5th edition of the three-day Navarathri Special ‘Kutcheri in the Park’, organized by Sundaram Finance, kicked off on the morning of October 11 with a vocal Carnatic music performance by the duo of Koushik Shankar and Karthik Shankar at the Chess Square of the Nageswara Rao Park.

The duo, learning under Mrs. Vasanthi Gopa, were accompanied on the Mridangam by M. Prabhakaran, and on the Violin by G. Vishveshwaran.

The following morning, 14-year-old B. Atchayaharini, a student of Vani Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School, presented a lively vocal concert in front of morning walkers, who had gathered around the Chess Square to encourage the young artistes. Atchayaharini, who is learning music from Mrs. Padma Sandilyan, was accompanied on the Mridangam by D. Prasanna Venkatesh, and on the Violin by Aasha Sriram. Atchayaharini presented assorted numbers that included Gajananaytham (Naatai- Aadhi), Inthakan (Bilahari- Roopagam), Chandrasekara (Sindhu Bairavi-Aadi) and Shree Lakshmi (Hamsadwani- Aadhi).

P. Viswanathan, Company Secretary, Sundaram Finance Ltd., presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.

On the third and final morning, 13-year-old Asha Ramanujam of PSBB Nungambakkam enthralled the Sunday morning audience with a sweet Carnatic music performance. Every song presented by Asha was applauded by the music buffs, sitting on stools around the Chess Square. Asha, who is learning music from Dr. Prema Rangarajan, was accompanied on the Mridangam by R Kishore, and on the Violin by Parur Ananthalakshmi. Asha presented songs that included Sidhi Vinayakam, Indhavazhi Poga Vendam, Nithi Chala Sukuma and Mudhukrisha.

Park Kucheri
Sundaram Finance has also been organizing Kutcheri in the Park on the first Sunday of every month since February 2007 for children aged below 15 years. No mikes and speakers are used at the Kutcheri in the Park. Sundaram Finance conducts audition to select the artistes aged below 15 years for the monthly Kutcheri in the Park. For registration, email:
