Winning fans, the Aruna Sayeeram way
The Bharat Sangeeth Utsav began on October 30, 2010 with a concert of Aruna Sayeeram at Narada Gana Sabha. She put the young and old alike to comfort with her vibrant voice. The people in the audience were eager to hear their favourite numbers from Aruna Sayeeram. One such rasika was a young kid. The kid wanted Aruna Sayeeram to sing the ever lively “Maadu Meykum Kanna”. She sang the song and warmed the heart of the young rasika and won a huge round of applause from the audience . The first day of Bharat Sangeeth Utsav drew huge audience and its profile was distinct and diverse. Despite the not-so-efficient sound system at the Sabha, Aruna Sayeeram gave her best. She did justice to a few rasikas' request and apologized to others for not honouring their request due to paucity of time. The evening saw Aruna Sayeeram sing some lovely kritis. Mamamavuthu Saraswathi (Hindolam) of Mysore Vasudevacharya was preceded by a slokam “Sarva Mangala Mangalye”. Emma Ninne (Mukari) of Subbaraya Sastri and Endukku ni Manasu (Kalyani) of Thyagaraja made the concert enjoyable. A Papanasam Sivan kriti “Karpagambike(Bilahari) and “Madhura Madhura Venu Geetham”(Atana) raised the audience's expectations. Her favourite abhang in Sivaranjani and the ever-in-demand “Madu Meykum Kanna” proved delightful to the ears. Violinist Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi played with enthusiasm. B. Ganapathiraman on mridangam and Madipakkam Murali on ghatam played with vigour.
